news :: japaklang
Elusive Austrians Steinklang Industries are back in a big way with no less than 4 new releases spewing forth. The first is a biggun, an ode to the Japan noise scene called "Japanoise of Death II". Like the name suggests, this is the second iteration of the regional noise compilation and features notables like Guilty Connector, Dissecting Table, Incapactiants and a wack more of both grizzled and fresh faces. Making things more interesting is a special laser etched metal box edition which combines both editions of the comp (the original was only available as a limited vinyl or CDR). Keeping with the Nipon theme, we then have HIROSHI HASEGAWA's "Ascension No.999". This one is a CD with a run of 500 that combines "experimental cut-up noise, over droning sound-walls" with "screaming high frequency manipulations" during its 50 minutes. If that doesn't do it for you (or you still have cash left) "Rotten sarkoma" is the title of CDR from SCRELOMA which combines two of the best things in this mean old world: "harsh noises and heavy Power Electronics". You can expect "concrete or sublime rhythms" recorded in analogue with a runtime of 61 min. Finally, a week from now seminal release hog Dissecting Table gets yet another notch in his belt with "Early studio works 1986/87", a CD collating earlier material from his first LP and 7" plus 5 previously unreleased tracks. The disc comes wrapped in an A3 sized poster and lands on April 17. MP3s have been posted for these releases so suck up some bandwidth already. You can order all of this schwag direct from the label and for more details (except gig contacts in Austria, don't waste your time) hassle info@steinklang-records.at.

True school Czech export Einleitungszeit has made it out of the bunker alive to brandish about his latest full length disc entitled "DIE INFEKTION DER GEBURT". This new recording clocks in with 68 minutes spread over 10 tracks and gets strewn with adjective heavy phrases like "industrial amplitudes of pulse noise" not to mention "subliminal vibrations of thundering 'hallucinatory ambient'" which really aren't that far off the mark. The artist calls the approach used on the disc "clinical leitmotiv" which means re-occuring cases of "full sound texture and psychoactive atmosphere" and from the copy I picked up in Prague, I concur. The disc comes in a snazzy black and silver digipak and should be available now from the usual suspects like Malignant Records and Cold Spring amongst others. For more details send some repeating phrases to einleitungszeit@yahoo.com.

news :: breath play
Transylvanian label Mirgilus Siculorum Records has pulled their bloody hands away from the next issue of "Cross Of Black Steel" to announce a pair of new recordings, the first coming from German act Flutwacht and entitled "Breath". Not a lot of detail is given other than it being "highly recommended for PE/Noise/Experimental maniacs" (along with suitable medication or at least a getaway vehicle). This co-(self)release with The Tourette Tapes has a total run of 500, comes in a DVD case and will hurt you to the tune of 12€. Second in line is a 3 way collaboration run under the moniker S.S. ELECTRONICS which combines the noisy efforts of Geoff Markoff, Ella Einsmire and US based seminal ear abuser Richard Ramirez. "Elsa Fraulein S.S." is a CDR release providing a combination of power electronics and harsh noise packed in a DVD case and with a total run of 60. Damage for this one is 7€. You can snag these direct from the label and for more details or to succumb to the blackness hassle mirgilus@mirgilus.com.

Nether(lands) region label Dead Mind Records is mix and matching formats with two different kinds of plastic up for consumption. The first is a split CDR release between the tinfoil and plastic wrap loving Odal and Zyrtrax simply entitled "Vs". The 9 pieces here are apparently the result of a sleepover (sadly no flannel jammies) and you can expect "industrial noise" comprised of "layers of feedback, distortion and looped analog synths". The second man made material is in the form of a 7" bit of vinyl pitting seminal shit disturbers The Haters against the equally awesome EU freaks FCKN' BSTRDS. This example of "transatlantic noise terrorism" was 7 years in the making and will leave you fulfilled thanks to "total destruction on both sides". The first 25 copies snagged will get a special handmade sleeve so hop on that if you want one. To get your hands on either / both releases hassle the bejesus out of controlvschaos@hotmail.com.

news :: bunch of pricks
US based art fiend and noise maker Ov Korpse is back on the obsessively packaged release warpath with a slick new boxset entitled "Army Death Thorn (Once upon a Time in France)". This fourth iteration in the "Army Death" series features no less than eight C60 tapes crammed with Ov Korpse's signature thronging and rhythmics. The box itself is decorated with a Jerusalem sourced wooden cross as well as 50 glued thorns and comes with 8 inserts as well as a certificate of authenticity for the cross. Getting your greedy hands on one of the 22 available copies will set you back $58US plus postage (a steal really considering the obsessive attention to detail) and some example tracks have been posted to get you reaching with your wallet hand. For more information or to offer your consolences for his OCD hassle ovkorpse@yahoo.com.

Belgian label Silken Tofu is dipping into dark IP space with their latest 3" CDR release from Canadian black hats griefer. The new disc is called "Defense Research Establishment" and according to the label sports 4 tracks full of "heavy death industrial" and "violent dirty power electronics" which has been inspired by true life events surrounding a military institution with foreign controlled backdoors on their network and an absentee IT department. The disc will set you back 6€ plus postage and can be had direct from the label. For more info or to ask Wim for to get you some Kriek while he is up, hassle info@silkentofu.org.

UK based label Industrial Culture Records has let it be known that 12 inches is the way to go with 4 x 3" CDRs up for grabs. The first comes from THE SPACE VAMPIRES and gets the title "Tired" (the energy drink situation in Europe is abysmal). You can expect a mix of "harsh, noisy and gloomy" with zero rhythmics and cut up style vocals. The second disc comes from Japanese release hog KENJI SIRATORI with "Murder Gimmick" being full of "post-humanistic violence" in audio form (your guess is as good as mine on what that sounds like). Next we have AI YAMAMOTO's "Possa's Revange". This Australia sourced recording merges noise with dark industrial music using "high pitch noise, human voices, music concrete, car plan factory sounds, the sound of explosions and abstract textures" to set itself apart. Finally, Canadian export D/A A/D raises the devil horns with "My Evil Runs Strong". Summed up succinctly as "noise" the disc offers 20 minutes of "analog synth destruction and sampler abuse" which is "slowly plowing through, crushing all in its path". The discs are packaged in mini jewel cases complete with colour art and will set you back $4US a pop plus postage. Somnolent Shelter Records is handling distro duties on the other side of the pond and to order or to ask for measurements in metric hassle info@industrialculture.org.

In the future I'm just going to add playlists like everyone else and not hog the news page, but I wanted everyone to know that the UIOP (because acronyms are SO cool) exists and will feature snipits of stuff I get for review and whatnot.

So, now that you know, shut up and listen.

news :: No more hothead
Sad news in the PE world as Seminal American noise and PE outfit Fire In The Head has recently called it quits after a short but rather prolific couple of years. It seems that Sky Burial and all other related projects will also cease activity as well. However, posthumous releases from both projects are in the works.

Just a heads up that yours truly is hitting the road for an EU tour shortly so there will be no news updates (at least by me, Royce might be around) until late March when I return. I have also disabled new accounts while I am gone to minimize potential spammage. Everything should get back to normal around March 23 or so. In the meantime, you can track our progress via the griefer tour log.

Clangiferous Austrian label Klanggalerie has emptied out the garbage can besides their bed to spill out the CD "Tissue of Lies" by seminal (ahem) types Nocturnal Emissions. Originally released in 1980 by Sterile Records, this first album for the act has been remastered by Nigel Ayers though unfortunately the source is an instance of the original vinyl so you can expect some crackle and pop artifacts (digital formats FTW). Soundwise this recording is summed as being the project's most "Industrial" with a mix of "noisy landscapes to post-punk songs". The disc sports the original artwork, has a run of 400 and clocks in at 62 minutes. If you want one you are looking at 14€ (wholesale is available) and for more details you should hassle klanggalerie@chello.at.

news :: sucks you in
Enemata Productions may be shy about their mailing address but they are much more vocal about their latest cassette release from Infirmary entitled "Black Hole Reflection". Breaking step current trends this one comes on a C80 (a tape that you don't have to flip after 5 minutes, imagine that!) and gets summed up as "harsh walls of doom" so remember your ice tools and gaiters. You can expect a mix of "radio, sheet metal contraptions, and effects" that has been "mixed directly from the 8-track masters to achieve the purest in analog quality" (I prefer the byline "for your safety and convenience" but whatcha gonna do). Rounding out the deal is a pro printed cardstock J card with the final damage being $10US world (knock off a couple of bucks in Happy Jesus land). To snag a copy or for more details hit Enemata's website for a contact email address.

Fine Finns Some Place Else have produced a pair of new CDs to warm up early 2008, the first a collaboration release between noise monger GELSOMINA and the "dark electro-acoustic soundscape" journeyman NO XIVIC. Bearing the name "Furnace" the full length CD is said to be a "dark throbbing tarry blanket" of harsh to atmospheric drone with some touches of harsh noise thrown in to keep you honest. Second in line is a similar collab between BARDOSENETICCUBE and NOISES OF RUSSIA called "New Orthodox Line". Bearing down into more industrial realms this disc ranges from "ambient to harsh noise" with no shortage of "squeaks and clatters" to break up the "low frequencies piercing the atmosphere". Both discs are available direct from the label and for more details or to ask them to turn up the heat hassle info@someplaceelse.net.

Belgian agitator Cenaesthesia has put together a rather slick tribute net-release for seminal deceased Italian deviant Marco Corbelli. Entitled "Through Death He Lives", the release spans 3 discs worth of material and includes artwork as well as artist statements discussing how they spent their summer vacation, er I mean why they became members of this particular Atrax Morgue death cult. There is a solid mix of fresh and grizzled faces here including the likes of Steel Hook Prostheses, Murderous Vision, Cold Flesh Colony, Azoikium and a corpse load more which you can suss out yourself via the project's website. A streaming radio station has also been launched so if you are adverse to ZIP files here's your solution. I haven't been able to find out much more about the Belgian woman that put it together but at the least you can check out her last.fm page here.
