comment :: Gear Set up Sonar 3 and Reaktor 4
Using Sonar 3 and Reaktor sessions with the electronic sounds volume 2 update and ,sound forge .
this set up is very powerful. inther newer electronic sounds vol 2 there is a ensemble (noise generating devide ) call the metaphyical function, this little beauty is really amazing the grindage that this thing canspew is amzing! it alone covers the cost of the $80.00 usd I paid for the addition.
try the sessions demo is bad it's rad .
it can sound as good or as bad as hardware and .....you can import your own or the samples oof others ....akia samples ....then mangle the s**t out of them!

create huge cpu intensive setups then bounce the sound to an audio track and delete the devices ....
sessions ships with a bunch off great sounding Fx's as well

this combination is the powerful user definable and I am sad to say I will probably never need to buy any more hardware with the possible exception of usb controllers.

Heh, that's interesting what you say about the Metaphysical Function. I had downloaded the standalone version that they made a while back, but while it made some interesting soundscapes, overall it sounded pretty tame to me. So the playable version is actually capable of some grindage then huh? I looked at the EI but figured I'll pass on it as there are a bunch of synths in the user library, and I tend to do my own things with Reaktor anyway. I prefer that way of working than trying to figure out what others have done and see what they're capable of. I suppose I need an attitude adjustment :D

I find that some of the interfaces are...oblique and require a cheat sheet to be able to use the functions. many, most ensembles are not as friendly as a mini moog or an arp odessey, both of with are very straight forward ,giving up variety for familarity.

I use a nord modular and build my own stuff and I understand the obvious to the designer is not always so ,to the end user.
I just checked in to Reaktor using sessions to see how I liked it. and though I really like the sound quality , I suspect sometime will berquired to bcome comfortable with many of the interfaces.
I suspect it will be time well spent.

Yes, I highly recommend it. It is a time sink, even more so than Nord Modular or a Kurzweil K2xxx series synth, but then again you can do some far out things that are not possible with either. Overall, time sink or not, I think it's a nice compromise between flexibility and ease of use compared to stuff like Max/MSP. I'd say, if you feel comfortable with creating your own patches with the Nord Modular, most of the concepts will be quite easy to grasp.
