Does anyone know of a (free) piece of software that can allow me to strip audio from video files? I'm looking for something that can strip audio from Quicktime/Windows Media type files.

Any suggestions?

Well, the lofi option would be to feed your audio out back into the input and then use a standard recording app to capture it.

You might be able to do this "virtual dub", there is also mplayer, and transcode though I am not sure of the latter exists under Windows.

audio editors usually have a recording function: Wavelab (and audacity can do this too if you insist on freeware) has a 'record the audio output' function (options, somewhere in the recording menu opening when you want to record something) that enables you to record whatever's played by the soundcard at that moment. That's the easiest way to do things (my pal david's been recording movie samples for some years using that function)
