When not destroying brain cells with the good noise I like alot of old Seattle grunge. Alice In Chains, Soundgarden, Nirvana, L7, etc. Even indulge in some Tech N9ne, or ICP, 3-6 Mafia as well. I dig a few underground electro-industrial acts too, Fighting Dan, Synthetic Minister, and not to sound full of myself but I actually like the crap I make too.

@lucid darkness: How can Slayer be punk???

They're not? Shows how much I know. Actually it was one of my friends that insisted on them being punk, and since he listens to punk a lot more than I do, I figured he knew what he was talking about. But then he says that System of a Down is also punk. Well, whatever, punk or not, I like Slayer. Care to illuminate what they're then?

These days Slayer is more of mediocre hard rock band but historically at least they were definitely metal, speed or thrash if you want to choose a sub-genre.

Personally I would say that "Reign In Blood" is their best but black metal fans might prefer the earlier, trashier stuff. "Reign in Blood" is actually very influential to death metal (if you changed the vocals and tuned it down you would have something very close to the first wave of death metal bands). Vader is especially influenced by Slayer.

Cheers

The guy's right. Slayer are totally shit nowadays, but they were pretty much THE thrash band to listen to back when they were good. Anything up to (and probably including) "Divine Intervention" is top-class stuff.

too bad I have to agree Slayer is absolute crap now. They still have lights here and there though, like Bloodline in god hates us all -cliché, yeah, but still quite headbangable.

any of you heard THE wonderful metal band of this new year, I mean Jesu, from J. Braodrick (godflesh, techno animal, etc.)??? If you thought Isis was heavy and Neurosis dark, just have a taste of the most beautiful nightmare you've ever laid an ear on.
