comment :: forest industrial
If there's one thing I'm sick of, it's how all the big industrial labels keep putting out weak wind industrial like Klangwelt, and call it true forest industrial! I mean, wtf, seriously, it's not even hard to distinguish the two! Forest industrial was all about this great concept, and all these wind industrial bands (and some water industrial, like Formal Attire) just make me sick.

Dude man those bands just suck!! GO back to the roots with bands such as Finnormatik. That was true Forest/Troll Industrial. That shit was crazy. Don't forget bands like Asmescut and Immortal Inc. Asmescut had the best Water Industrial tracks seriously , with a mix of some Wind Industrial too. It's just some crazy shit , deffinitely is better than that shit on metro.

I'll add a (WTF!!!) as well.

Really now.

Besides the fact that I may be lost on the whole "elemental" indusrial thing, I do know that Klangwelt is synthpop in the same fashion as Wolfsheim.

Mortiis started out as Mr. Dark Ambient and then turned into a trollish Marc Almond / Metropolis disco travesty later on.

I've never heard anyone use the term "tree industrial" before but as I use the term "tree metal" for especially foofy black metal derivatives I can definitely see the connection. The whole Apocalyptic Folk scene could be summed up that way, the goth influence especially.

I'd call unlistenable pretentious twaddle like Northhaunt "tree industrial" possibly though I would prefer the term "tree ambient" if I was given a choice.

For the record, I personally see "tree industrial" as a borderline slur (nothing against trees mind you).

=)

Since when does anyone on this website have the right to call ANYTHING "unlistenable" and "pretentious" in such a derogatory way?

Hey, I never claimed not to be seriously opinionated.

But really, Earache era Mortiis is plain out awful - even for what it is trying to be it does a poor job.

With respect to Northaunt, the problem isn't that they are pretentious (we are all pretentious), it is that they are pretentious without offering anything to counter / justify that.

For example, Wilt is pretentious (all dark ambient is by its very nature) but it is also very successful at building mood and shows an adeptness at choosing placement and pursuing development.

Northaunt sounds like what happens when you give someone into metal their first cheap keyboard, a bag of pot and keep no critical eye on them whatsoever. It displays almost zero development, zero depth, totally lazy song layout, less than inspiring instrumentation, etc. It's completely half ass and relies on external image entirely for any mood.

The album I picked up in Germany was literally about 3 or 4 minutes worth of material spread over an entire album. Not minimalist just pathetically half assed.

IMHO of course.

I think this misses the point...

...what I was trying to illustrate is that larger labels, like Dependence and Metropolis, are turning into as much dictators of what is or isn't industrial as major corporate labels dictate what is or isn't good music. I mean, any self-respecting industrial fan wouldn't even touch a water industrial album (especially early 90's Ironbox Fiasco, before they got rid of Peter Sesh), let alone actually call it industrial.
